About Me

"Do you want to be a plumber?"

In 2009, just a few days before my father passed away in an avalanche, we were deep in the Wallowa Mountains, carrying 60+ pound packs as porters for a local backcountry ski hut. At one point, my dad stopped in the middle of the trail, turned to me, and asked, "Do you want to be a plumber?"

I was caught off guard. My dad had spent his life working a range of tough jobs—from being a merchant marine in the North Atlantic to fighting wildfires and, yes, even plumbing. It seemed out of character for him to question a blue-collar career. They were so intrisque to who he was and his relentless work ethic. He had worked through a lot to provide a pretty amazing life for our family in remote Eastern Oregon.

I hesitated, then answered, "No... not particularly."

He looked at me and said, "Well, if you don't want the world to assign you a job, you have to go after what you want in this life. If you don't, you could end up a plumber like I did for a while. The world is at your fingertips—choose what you love and go for it."

A few days later, he was gone.

The lesson has been seared into me ever since. For the past few decades, I’ve fought tooth and nail to stay true to my passion for sharing true human stories that inspire people to live life to the fullest.

My purpose

I believe our lives can to be lived to their fullest potential. I want to inspire others to find hope and inspiration in the world and to live authentically.

I carefully choose projects that resonate deep and truly with this belief, ensuring they are authentic and meaningful. I use art to share the core of the human experience.

I tell stories, through films and photographs that show people human potential. I work as a director, cinematographer, photographer, drone pilot, guide... whatever it take takes.

Expeditions

  • 2024: On May 9, 2024, I documented the first ski descent of Great Trango Tower (6,286m) in Pakistan by American alpinists Chantel Astorga, Christina Lustenberger, and Jim Morrison. They skied a weaving line down the mountain's west face, and I climbed with the team to just a hundred feet below the true summit.
  • 2024: During an expedition to Mount Everest, I made a significant discovery, finding part of the body of Andrew Irvine, one of the climbers from the 1924 Mallory and Irvine expedition. This discovery adds a new chapter to the long-standing mystery of their fate on Everest.
  • 2024: I documented and skied with Kai Jones as he became the youngest person to ski the Otter Body route on the Grand Teton, a challenging and iconic ski descent.
  • 2022: I embarked on an expedition to find Bradford Washburn’s lost camera on Mt. Lucania in Yukon, Canada. I walked over a hundred miles on an exposed glacier and personally located the missing camera of Bradford Washburn and his expedition nearly 80 years after it was lost.
  • 2022: I worked as a guide on a two-week ski expedition on the glaciated terrain of the Antarctic Peninsula.
  • 2022: I participated in an exploratory ski mountaineering expedition on the West Coast of Greenland, where I climbed and skied a series of technical routes.
  • 2021: I led an expedition for the first adaptive ski descent of Denali, the tallest mountain in North America, with two adaptive athletes completing this historic descent.
  • 2020-2023: I completed countless ski mountaineering objectives in the Tetons, including summiting and skiing the Grand Teton, South Teton, Teewinot, and other mountains in the range.
  • 2020: During my Ring of Fire series, I bicycled from Lake Tahoe to Seattle, climbing and skiing multiple mountains along the way, including Mt. Lassen, Mt. Shasta, Mt. McLoughlin, Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, South Sister, Middle Sister, North Sister, Jefferson, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Rainier.
  • 2020: I filmed 20 episodes of Life Below Zero - Alaska in remote Alaska, spending nearly a year working in temperatures that regularly reached -60°F.
  • 2019: I documented a Mt. Everest expedition, capturing two professional climbers attempting to climb a new route below the NE Ridge of Everest.
  • 2019: I summited and skied Denali while filming for the Denali Snowboard Film.
  • 2019: I completed the first winter ascent of Tupungato and the first ski descent of an extremely remote 6,000-meter peak near Aconcagua in the Andes.
  • 2019: I successfully guided 8 clients to the summit of Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in South America, on January 11, 2019.
  • 2019: I attempted a ski descent of Corcovado, a very technical ice climb on a rarely summited volcano in Patagonia.
  • 2018: I embarked on a ski mountaineering expedition in Peru, summiting and skiing multiple 6,000-meter peaks, including Tocllaraju, Pisco, Ishinca, and Urus.
  • 2018: I led a crew on a two-week ski expedition on glaciated terrain in the Antarctic Peninsula.
  • 2017: I worked as a camera assistant for SeaLegacy on multiple expeditions to polar regions.
  • 2016-2017: I served as an assistant guide for Ice Axe Expeditions.
